We are now looking for a Data Protection Expert to Wärtsilä Group’s data protection team. You will be reporting to the Group Data Protection Manager and will work closely with Information Management, Corporate Legal Affairs and Cyber Security organizations. You will also liaise closely with business stakeholders and Wärtsilä data protection network. To qualify for the job you would preferably have few years of work experience in data protection.


You are invited to assume an active role in data protection. Our expectation of your key responsibilities are listed below:

  • Participate in implementation and monitoring of data protection activities
  • Contribute in development, update and implementation of policies, processes, guidelines, procedures and tools supporting data protection
  • Coordinate, monitor, investigate and participate in responding to internal and external data protection questions, inquiries and requests
  • Create, organise and conduct data protection training in cooperation with Corporate Legal Affairs and other key stakeholders and support local training activities
  • Work alongside product, engineering and business teams to implement privacy-by-design
  • Assist and conduct data protection assessments, identify risk areas and support in planning remedial activities
  • Participate in incident response activities
  • Engage with application managers and teams to support application data processing compliance
  • Advise on privacy requirements for new product launches, features or enhancements, 3rd party integrations and use of data
  • Review and define personal data flows
  • Contribute in developing and conducting data protection reporting


  • Education: M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics or other relevant education. Education and certifications in data protection and information security will be considered as an advantage e.g. CIPP Certification (Certified Information Privacy Professional)
  • Previous data protection work experience will be considered as a strong advantage
  • Fluent or good command of English, both written and spoken
  • Good written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Willingness to learn and to take on new responsibilities as needed
  • Skilled in working across diverse teams and cultures to accomplish privacy initiatives

LOCATION for this position is Wärtsilä offices in Helsinki or Vaasa.
