We are looking for a new professional to our Environmental Systems team in Tampere, Finland to work in a role of Chief Engineer / Engineering Manager with Marine Scrubber solutions. We are a team of 22 strong cleantech professionals developing, selling, and delivering flue gas cleaning to onshore energy and pulp industry, and marine scrubbers to efficiently control ships’ exhaust gas emissions to air and sea water.
As Chief Engineer your main responsibility is to be responsible of marine scrubber product mechanical solutions and to ensure cost competitiveness of the Marine Scrubber solutions from mechanical aspect. This includes for example leading related R&D projects, updating design rules and instructions of products, and troubleshooting running solutions. You will also support sales to achieve winning concept and execution projects to ensure reliable engineering solutions.
As the Engineering Manager you are the project manager’s right hand and make sure we deliver what was promised in the technical specifications. You will lead different fields of engineering in the project by coordinating the work and giving technical support. You are often the first point of contact for technical queries from the customer, suppliers and internal stakeholders during the whole project timeline from sales to commissioning. You will have a strong role in purchasing and you are responsible for creating technical inquiries to our suppliers.
You will split your time 50 / 50 between these two roles, be a solid member of the project execution team, but also collaborate significantly with product team. In addition to your own team you will also work with several other disciplines within Valmet. This is not a line manager position, but you will lead varying matrix teams in different sales, execution, and R&D projects.
You have suitable educational background in Mechanical Engineering or similar with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and few years of work experience from relevant industry. Understanding of plant and solution deliveries and different disciplines such as process, electrical and automation engineering is beneficial. We believe a background as chief engineer, product manager, design engineer, project engineer or similar position would provide a good foundation to be successful in this role. Experience in marine technology, standards, classification and business is an advantage.
Proactive attitude, cooperation skills and an active communication style are essential to this position, as you will lead and pull together several stakeholder groups. You have commercial acumen and you are customer-orientated as you work in the customer interface and in sales support. You enjoy managing the overall project as well as solving detailed engineering problems, making prioritization as you go. In this role you need certain amount of creativity and you can make informed decisions in sometimes changing and uncertain situations. Fluent English skills are required and the position includes some travelling.
