Finland is one of the most innovative, best-educated countries in the world, and recently added the happiest country in the world to its list of credentials. The United States and Finland have a long history of a cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and innovation with the US being its most important trading partner is healthcare.  Furthermore, Finland boasts several medical firsts: created the wearables industry (1976), invented the panoramic dental x-ray machine, and launched the first EMR where social determinants of health sit on top of patients’ clinical information.

Business Finland serves Finnish companies in the areas of trade promotion, investment, export, tourism, and innovation with offices in over 30 countries. We are now looking for an Advisor to New York to advance Finnish exports, US market entry, co-development, and joint R&D in the healthcare space. We are offering the opportunity to work with startups, SMEs, and universities, who have new ideas and technologies, many of which are ahead of the market adoption curve. Business Finland seamlessly works with the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs creating a forward thinking, agile, fast moving, and global ecosystem.

Our offices are located in the Finnish Consulate in mid-town and we work closely with our Nordic counterparts, including the newly established Nordic Innovation House, also in mid-town. We collaborate with Team Finland representatives in Consulate General of Finland in Los Angeles and New York, as well as in the Embassy of Finland in Washington D.C.

YOUR TASK

  • Forming and continuing long-term networking and cooperation between US and Finnish companies, ecosystems, and partners
  • Guiding and coaching Finnish genomic, health IT, bioinformatics, and life science/biotech companies, and occasionally companies in other sectors
  • Participating in foresight and sense making activities – Sales Leads, Market Opportunities, and Future Watch services
  • Taking an active role in Finnish and joint Nordic collaborations and initiatives in healthcare and life sciences
  • Being a proactive member of the Team Finland USA network and business councils in arranging delegation visits, attending industry events, sharing industry information, and providing support to Finnish enterprises

You are living in the area with established networks and have experience in more than one of the of the following fields: healthcare, life sciences, genomics, bioinformatics, health IT, health technology, within the US. In addition, you have a Master’s degree and/or higher degree with 5-10 years of direct US experience in healthcare/life sciences and in tasks related to the internationalization and growth of companies, including industry/university cooperation, joint research, business development, funding, and co-development. Experience with Finnish and/or Nordic companies is a plus. You are fluent in English and Finnish skills are not required. The position requires the possibility to travel both within the US and internationally, up to 30% of working time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position reports to the Head of North America and works closely with the current Director of Healthcare.

This position is with a local, US employment contract. Please note that there is no Visa sponsorship available.
