Job Purpose:

The purpose of the BD&L Head Oncology Nordic role is to work in Oncology Finance team covering the Nordic Cluster, consisting of 4 legal entities Denmark (including Iceland), Finland, Norway and Sweden. The role covers the full cluster and some travelling needed to provide face time with the customers and partners. There is a high level of interaction with associates across countries, Nordic leadership team, Global teams; hence excellent communication skills are essential. The BD&L Head is responsible for maximizing the return behind our established products range through screening total brand portfolio, assessing portfolio risk profile, identifying commercial partnership opportunities, and executing different types of deals. The role develops and maintains Business Development and Strategic Alliance capability in the Nordic organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead regular portfolio reviews including portfolio gap analysis, product life cycle, and sales potential in close collaboration with Country leaders, Nordic leadership team, DA leads and Finance BPAs.
  • Orchestrate the evaluation, workflows and decision making for Commercial partnership deals.
  • Work closely with Head of Finance to explore paths for value creation behind established portfolio through maximizing top-line and sharing investment risk. i.e: BD&L solutions to maintain higher sales growth with an inclining profit margin for the non-strategic brands.
  • Business Advisor to Head of Finance and Nordic leadership team regarding commercial deals opportunities and feasibility.
  • Focal point for regional/global requests of non-strategic brands that need to be cascaded with country cross-functional heads.
  • Work closely with tri Strategy and Operations leads (Commercial, Medical, and Market Access) to drive brand life cycle paths and Nordic action agenda for the non-strategic portfolio that is not outsourced.
  • Screen Nordic market consistently for possible strategic partners to Novartis Oncology based on available secondary data sources, potentially primary research, and initial negotiations.
  • Define negotiation strategy based on developed business case to align on key terms with potential partners.
  • Lead negotiations with potential commercial partners; hence lead the internal cross-functional (task force) team and ensure compliance/QA review performed.
  • Identify portfolio new outsourcing opportunities and seek potential partners for them.
  • Develop and seek approval for new Business Development opportunities.
  • Run complete evaluation of BD&L ideas on financial, strategic, and market aspects.
  • Negotiate term sheet and prepare business case.

Minimum requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • University degree (Bachelor’s or above) in the field of finance, or Business administration
  • English (Fluent)
  • One Nordic language is a plus
  • Significant 5-8 years of experience on in a licensing or business development function and /or business analysis (preferable in pharmaceutical industry).
  • Experience in Pharma Marketing
  • Thorough understanding of Sales dynamics, P&L, share of voice, patient journeys, and commercial excellence metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to think broadly and innovate within the Pharmaceutical business, especially around product outsourcing opportunities and achievement.
  • Excellent analytical ability combined with broad picture perspective.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across a matrixed and widely dispersed organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills and success.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to clearly present financial data in reports.
  • Solid Software skills (Microsoft office, in particular Excel).
