Your role

We seek a bachelor's thesis worker/summer trainee to work as a part of an international R&D project BESEP (Benchmark Exercise on Safety Engineering Practices) for 3-4 months during 1.5.-31.8.2022. The project is about safety margins determination and verification of safety requirements for nuclear power plants using external hazards as a benchmark. We offer the possibility to work and write a bachelor's thesis as part of the project that deals with analysis case studies used for benchmarking the analysis requirements. In addition to the bachelor's thesis work, the trainee will also get to know the other parts of the BESEP project. There is an option to continue working with the project with a master's thesis in 2023.

We offer the opportunity to work and write a bachelor’s thesis within an international research project. During summer, the summer trainee will get to know different kinds of safety analysis methods, international requirements concerning external hazards in nuclear power plants, and Fortum as a company. You will work as a part of Nuclear Safety Design team.

In Nuclear Safety Design team we participate in a variety of projects and assignments for both Loviisa nuclear power plant and external customers. Some of the areas of expertise and responsibilities in Nuclear Safety Design team are functional design, safety design requirements, safety and seismic classification, safety analyses and studies/reports, and emergency and abnormal operating procedures.

What we are looking for

We seek a person interested in nuclear safety. Clear and concise written and oral communication in English is needed. Knowledge of analyses or nuclear power would be an asset.
